What is Pranic Healing?
A gentle, no-touch energy healing practice. Here is where it comes from, what a session is like, and what to know before you book.
Where it comes from
Pranic Healing was developed by Grand Master Choa Kok Sui, who began teaching it in the 1980s. “Prana” is a Sanskrit word for life energy. Pranic Healing works with your energy body, sometimes called the aura, and with the energy centers known as chakras.
A no-touch practice
Your healer doesn't touch you at any point. They work with their hands a short distance from your body, which is why Pranic Healing can be offered in person, over video, or as distance healing, where there's no call and your healer sends you a report afterwards.
What happens in a session
- A short check-in about what has brought you and what you would like support with.
- You sit or lie comfortably, usually with your eyes closed. Your healer may ask you to rest the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth.
- Your healer scans your energy field with their hands, to sense where energy feels low or congested.
- They cleanse, sweeping away used or congested energy, and then energize, directing fresh prana where it's needed.
- A short close, where you can share anything you noticed.
Session length varies by healer and is shown on each offering.
What you might feel
Some people feel warmth, coolness, tingling, lightness or deep calm. Others notice very little, and that's fine too. There's no right way to experience a session.
Pranic Healing and your health
Pranic Healing is a complementary practice. It is not a substitute for medical or mental-health care, so please keep up any treatment you've been prescribed. If you have a health condition, are pregnant or have recently had surgery, let your healer know before your session.
About training
Pranic Healing is taught in a series of courses, and some healers also offer related practices such as Pranic Psychotherapy and Pranic Crystal Healing. Healers list their own training on their profile. We review every profile by hand, but we don't verify certificates, so you're always welcome to ask a healer about their training.
